|
|
On Wednesday, May 19th former Chicago Bear Jerry Azumah hosted his annual Chance of A Lifetime Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament benefiting The ASAP Foundation, which provides scholarships for underprivileged youth in San Miguel Schools of Chicago. The event was a great success resulting in a full sponsorship and mentorship of another student for four full years of education. ASAP received unconditional support at the Poker Tournament from guests arriving from across the United States to contribute to the cause Jerry Azumah started in 2004. The Foundation is very grateful and thrilled to have been able to raise enough funds in one day to help sponsor another child for a chance of better education and an opportunity for a higher quality of life. This past Tuesday, Jerry met with Keshaun for brunch, a six grader who is now being sponsored by The ASAP Foundation, and its founder sat at the round table and got to know one another more closely. During their time together they bonded and played Connect 4, also they got their hands dirty planting basil for San Miguel’s gardening project. Last week ASAP was able to see where it plants its seeds and how they come to fruition, it is through the continuous assistance of the foundation’s supporters and friends, Keshaun a 6th grader at San Miguel will have the “chance of a lifetime” to learn, grow and pursue his dreams.
Jerry Azumah - Born to West African immigrant parents and raised in Worcester, Mass., he has had a fortunate life attributing it to the support he has received throughout his life, especially in his younger academic years. In 1991, Azumah enrolled at St. Peter Marian High School, a private school in Worcester where he began to fulfill his classroom and athletic potential. Without the assistance of a local Worcester donor, he would not have been able to attend the prestigious institution. Equipped with a remarkable early education, a BA from University of New Hampshire and a successful 7-year football career with the Chicago Bears (All Pro, 2004), Jerry has been able to retire, maintain a healthy lifestyle and embark on new endeavors, by the age of 30. In addition, he joined Cellular Bears Post Game Live for his first season as studio analyst for Comcast SportsNet in 2007. About ASAP (Azumah Student Assistance Program) Foundation - With an inception in 2004, its primary goal is to provide scholarships for disadvantaged students in Massachusetts, Illinois and beyond. This year’s ASAP event is being used to directly serve support to San Miguel Schools, Chicago. More information on ASAP can be found at www.theasapfoundation.org.
