Naperville Soccer Association Premier player and fifth-grade student, Isabel Reedy, came up with an idea to use her love of soccer to give back to others in need.
She loves the sport so much that she wants to make the game available for anyone who wants to play it. When she learned about a school in Chicago where the students don't have the same equipment and uniforms that her team enjoys, she asked her dad for advice on what she could do to help.
"Isabel came up with a plan to raise money for the San Miguel School so that their coach could buy new shin guards, soccer balls and nets for their team," her father, Chris Reedy said. "Once the donations started coming in, her confidence grew and she felt comfortable asking more people to support her project. She raised over $1,000 so far."
On Saturday, Isabel's team played host to the San Miguel School soccer team on a playing field near Neuqua Valley High School.
Soccer 2000 in Downers Grove is selling the equipment to San Miguel at cost and Little Italian of Naperville donated pizza for after the game.
"I am really excited to meet the soccer players from San Miguel," Isabel said before the event. "The game is going to be a fun and it feels good to know that I'm helping someone through one of my favorite things, soccer."
The San Miguel Schools (www.sanmiguelchicago.org), located in the Back of the Yards and Austin neighborhoods in Chicago, provide an innovative and accessible education to inner-city children.
