San Miguel Schools to Raise Scholarship Funds for Students on Chicago's South and West Sides with House of Blues Event Press Release, 06.15.05 CHICAGO, IL - San Miguel Schools will host its First Annual Gospel Brunch Fundraising Event on Thursday, June 26 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the House of Blues, located at 329 North Dearborn Street in Chicago. The event will be emceed by NBC5's news anchor, Zoraida Sambolin, and will raise scholarship funds for middle school and high school students on Chicago's underserved South and West Sides, where the San Miguel Schools are located. The Gospel Brunch is also a celebration of San Miguel Schools' 10th Anniversary. The event will showcase a professional gospel choir as well as San Miguel Schools' very own student choir and "praise dance" team. The festivities will include a self-serve brunch, a live auction and a surprise student performance. Despite being located in neighborhoods that experience the lowest high school graduation rates in the state of Illinois (according to research from the Annie E. Casey Foundation), San Miguel students have been able to succeed in high school and beyond. Of all high school-aged San Miguel alumni, 99 percent of them are currently attending school. And of the first three graduating classes, more than 85 percent have received a high school diploma or the equivalent. Proceeds from the event will provide scholarship funds to middle school and high school students from the Austin and Back of the Yards neighborhoods in Chicago. Tickets for the San Miguel Schools Gospel Brunch are $100 per person. (A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.)
